Motorcycle helmet covered in messages left as poignant tribute to 25-year-old biker killed in crash

The motorcyclist who died in a crash on the A4067 in the Brecon Beacons over the weekend has been named as Emyr Rhys Hughes.

A number of flowers and tributes have been left to the 25-year-old from Ystradgynlais , at the scene of the crash.

The one-vehicle crash happened just before 11am on Sunday , March 24, on the A4067  Brecon  Road between Pen y Cae and the Cray Reservoir in Powys .

Mr Hughes died at the scene and the road was closed for a number of hours.

A number of tributes have been left at the scene of the crash, including a black motorbike helmet with tributes saying 'will miss you, big man', 'I love you, my boy' and 'a good man'.

Daniel Hudson, who was out riding his motorbike with Mr Hughes when the crash happened, said the black helmet belongs to him.

They decided to leave it at the scene as the helmet broke while he was rushing to get to Mr Hughes, he continued.

Mr Hudson said: "He was one of the nicest, friendliest men - you could not find a better friend anywhere.

"He was one of the best people you could ever meet.

"He was a hard worker and was loved by all his family and friends."

The 29-year-old, who also lives in Ystradgynlais, said Mr Hughes worked as an MOT tester and that they had known each other for a number of years.

"He loved his motorbike - he was always doing things with it and he was out every weekend," Mr Hudson added. "He would do anything for anyone - there were days you would see him working outside his house until 9pm or 10pm trying to get something finished."

Mr Hudson, who works in the Port Talbot steelworks, said there were eight of them out the day crash happened and that they all rushed to help Mr Hughes after the crash.

He also thanked the doctor who stopped to help.

"I am devastated with what has happened - it has shocked the community," Mr Hudson continued.

A fundraising page has been set up to pay for Mr Hughes funeral and, in two days, nearly £1,500 have been raised.

Tributes have been paid to him on social media as well, with Emma Roderick writing: "So sad another young person taken to soon. Thoughts are with his family at this very sad time."

Jason Evans wrote: "RIP fella you will be missed by the loved ones you leave behind, condolences to the family who lost a loved one.

"Words will never fill the gap."

A statement from Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Our thoughts are with his family, who are being supported by a specialist officer. 

"We continue to appeal for witnesses to the collision."
