Motorbikes chased across golf course by police in Little Hulton

Motorbikers were chased across a golf course as they sped through a neighbourhood causing a nuisance, police said.

A number of dirt bikes were spotted being driven in an 'anti-social manner' on the former Brackley Golf Course in Little Hulton yesterday.

Officers from the Greater Manchester Police Salford North West neighbourhood team said they have been forced to use 'a variety of tactics' to stop off-road motorcyclists recently.

Yesterday, they had to chase the motorbikes across the golf course on foot and on pedal bikes as the riders made off and ditched the bikes.

The motorbikes were discovered hidden in undergrowth and were seized by the police - they were also found to be unregistered.

Police have warned that the off-road pit bikes cannot be legally ridden on roads or in public places.

In a Facebook post, GMP's PS Shaw said on Wednesday: "The Salford North West neighbourhood team has been out on patrol again today using a variety of tactics to combat off road motorcycle nuisance.

"A number of motorcycles were sighted being ridden in an anti-social manner on the former Brackley Golf Course, Little Hulton.

"The riders made off across the golf course and were enthusiastically pursued by the team who were on foot and pedal cycles.

"Suspecting the bikes had been hidden a search was conducted and two unregistered off-road pit bikes were located hidden in the undergrowth. They clearly need to brush up on their hide and seek skills.

"They have now kindly been collected by a low loader truck and taken to a police compound.

"It goes without saying that these types of bikes cannot be legally ridden on roads or in our public places."

The former Brackley golf course is next to the M61 with one part lying within the boundaries of the borough of Salford and another lying in the borough of Bolton.

Last year both councils approved plans to build more than 600 homes on the site.
