Motorbike yob dragged woman to the floor in robbery outside Liverpool supermarket

A motorbike thug dragged a woman to the floor during  a robbery outside a Chinese supermarket.

The terrifying incident unfolded at around 1.30pm on Sunday afternoon in the car park of the Chung Wah supermarket on Hardy Street on the edge of the city centre.

CCTV footage posted on Facebook showed two people coming out of the supermarket with shopping on Sunday afternoon.

A motorbike then appeared and then started to slide on the floor.

The pillion passenger then jumped up off the floor and ran at a woman. He grabbed her bag, dragged her to the floor and then jumped on the back of the motorbike.

The bike then sped off, as a number of people chased after it.

The ECHO understands that the motorbike had been causing a nuisance in the area prior to the robbery.

A police spokesman said: "Detectives are appealing for information following a robbery in Liverpool on Sunday 22 September.

"Just after 1.30pm, officers were made aware of an incident in the car park of the Chung Wah Supermarket in Hardy Street, to a report that a woman had been assaulted and robbed.

"Two males on a motorcycle pulled a handbag from the woman who was walking in the car park. They made off towards St James Street and St George Street. The woman was left extremely distressed."

Detective Inspector Phil Atkinson said to the ECHO: “We’re keen to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident.

“It is despicable to think that two offenders targeted a lone woman in this way, in daylight, and I know the wider community will share our disgust.

“I want to reassure the local community that we will take action on all the information you provide."
