A motorbike that seriously injured a Dublin delivery driver in the west of the capital last night was allegedly stolen by a bunch of children just hours before it was involved in the horrific smash.
Four people were rushed to hospital last night after the motorbike collided with the delivery driver's car on Decies Road in Ballyfermot on Friday evening at around 7pm.
The driver, who is a father-of-five from Ballyfermot and who is celebrating his 44th birthday in hospital today, is lucky to be alive after the three teen joyriders flew into his car at speed in a crash that set off his airbags.
A source at the scene told Dublin Live that the trio allegedly "came hopping down" the busy road on the bike.
The boys are said to be aged between 13 and 16-years-old but aren't locals, coming from a south Dublin area.
And Dublin Live understands that the kids had nicked the bike from Dublin city earlier that day.
The Suzuki GN 125 was stolen on Clanbrassil Street that evening with the owner only finding out about its whereabouts after they were alerted that it had been involved in a crash.
A family member close to the injured driver told Dublin Live that he is still in hospital.
They said: "He is recovering from impact injuries but is thankfully okay.
"He is still waiting on results in hospital and will be on crutches for weeks.
"It's his birthday today and he is very lucky he was not killed, as are the three boys. To be honest I'm just glad no one was killed."
A source added: "The boys, who are not from Ballyfermot and are between 13 and 16, had no helmets on. The driver's indicator lights were still on and they just drove straight into him.
"They came flying down the road, they must have hit him with some force as all the impact airbags came out."
Gardai confirmed that all four have non life-threatening injuries.
