Motorbike rider killed after a collision with a car near Barnard Castle

A man has died after a collision involving a car and motorcycle on a County Durham road.

Police officers were called to a collision at around 7.10pm on the B6278 at Eggleston, near Barnard Castle on Tuesday.

Sadly the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. No-one else was injured.

The road was closed for about five hours while collision investigators examined the scene.

Durham Constabulary is now appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

A force spokeswoman said: "Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have any dash cam footage are asked to get in touch.

"Anyone with any information is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident 363 of July 7."

A North East Ambulance Service spokeswoman said they were called at around 7.11pm after reports of a two vehicle collision.

She added: “We dispatched two double crew ambulances, a specialist paramedic and requested the support of the Great North Air Ambulance Service.”
