Motorbike rider hit by lorry and seriously injured after crash at busy junction

A motorbike rider was hit by a lorry and left seriously injured in a crash at a busy junction.

Emergency services were called to the East Lancashire Road, in St Helens, on Monday afternoon shortly after 1pm.

Paramedics and police raced to the scene where a man had been knocked from his motorcycle on the Manchester bound carriageway at Windle Island.

A short time later he was rushed to hospital and is being treated for a number of serious injuries.

According to Merseyside Police, the driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is help officers with their investigation into the crash.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said: "We are appealing for witnesses following a serious injury road traffic collision in St Helens this afternoon, Monday 31 August.

"At 1.15pm, it was reported that a lorry had been in collision with a motorcylce on the Manchester bound carriageway of the East Lancashire Road at Windle Island near to Windle Pilkingtons bridge.

"Emergency services attended and the motorcyclist was taken to hospital where he is being treated for serious injures.

"His condition is not life threatening.

"The driver of the lorry stopped at the scene.
