Motorbike raiders hunted by police helicopter after cash stolen from security van in Morriston

Two people are being hunted by police in an air and ground search after they stole cash from a security van in Woodfield Street, Morriston.

They snatched an undisclosed amount of cash from a G4S security van before escaping on an off-road motorbike.

Multiple police vehicles were seen next to a G4S van outside Halifax in Morriston at around 1pm on Thursday.

An 'off road' style bike was used in the theft and a South Wales Police helicopter was circling the area throughout Thursday afternoon looking for the thieves.

Kevin Smith, who works at the Specsavers store opposite Halifax, saw two people on a moped weave between vehicles before appearing to try and snatch bags of cash from a security guard as they left the bank.

"I saw the security guard with two money bags of what looked like loose change.

"Two people on a moped weaved between the car and the van and the person on the back leaned over. It looked like they tried to take something."

It hasn't been confirmed whether anyone was injured in the incident.

A spokeswoman for South Wales Police said: "We are currently investigating the theft of cash from a security van in Woodfield Street, Morriston, at about 12.45pm.

"Two people on an off-road bike were involved in the incident. Enquiries are ongoing with assistance from the police helicopter."
