Motorbike horror as schoolgirl,12, seriously hurt in Ayrshire

A 12-year-old girl remains in a serious condition in hospital after a motorbike hit her on a 60mph road.

She was struck as she crossed the A759 at the entrance to Laigh Hillhouse Farm at Barassie.

The rider, a man aged 30, was thrown from his machine just after 7pm last night (Wednesday).

The Honda Translap came to rest further along the road - a busy link between Loans and Irvine.

The girl was first taken to the nearby Crosshouse Hospital, before being transferred to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow.

Medics describe her as "serious bus stable."

The rider remains in Crosshouse which his condition is "stable."

Police had closed the road and are appealing for witnesses.

Inspector Greg Dinnie said: "We would also ask anyone who was driving in the area yesterday evening who has dash-cam footage to have a look back. It may be vital in helping us establish exactly what happened here.

“The road was quite busy and therefore there would have been people in the area at the time. "
