Motorbike bursts into flames during rush hour traffic sending smoke into the sky

A motorbike burst into flames while waiting in rush hour traffic sending plumes of smoke into the air.

Emergency services were called to Gorsey Lane, in Wallasey, at around 5.30pm on Tuesday after reports of a vehicle fire.

Witnesses said that the bike was travelling along the road, during the busy afternoon queues, when the motorcycle went alight.

Police and fire crews arrived at the scene and the fire was quickly brought under control but pictures and video captured the moments before it was extinguished.

Footage showed how cars surrounding the bike were forced to stop in the road as flames came from the engine and smoke billowed into the sky.

Thankfully, a spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed that the rider was not injured in the incident and the fire is believed to have been caused by a technical malfunction.

After the fire was put out, traffic was able to move freely around the scene as emergency service organised for the bike to be recovered.
