Police are trying to track down a motorcycle rider who fled the scene of an accident which left a passenger seriously injured.

Colinton Mains Drive was shut for several hours from around 10.40pm, with police and paramedics at the scene.

A white and red scrambler-type motorcycle with a driver and passenger struck the central pedestrian island.

The passenger was badly injured in the accident and taken to hospital by ambulance.

The rider left the scene heading west and was last seen turning right at the Tesco superstore.

Sergeant Andrew Trotter of Edinburgh city road policing, said: "We are appealing for anyone who may have information and who has not already come forward to do so.

"We are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash, anyone who may have dashcam footage or anyone who has seen the motorcycle around the time of the incident to get in touch."

The road had reopened on Saturday morning. The accident took place near the roundabout in front of the Tesco superstore.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 4495 of 21 February.
