Moto G5 and G5 Plus: All you need to know

Motorola is launching the Moto G5 and G5 Plus smartphones in India. Unveiled last month at the MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2017 Barcelona, the two new smartphones will be succeeding the Moto G4, G4 Plus and G4 Play smartphones. The new phones will be available exclusively on Flipkart.com, unlike the predecessors which were launched with Amazon.in.

The big difference between this year’s Moto G phones and their predecessor is the shift in design language: the new phones will not carry the plastic body and removable back cover design of its predecessor. Instead they will have a unibody design and full metal finish like the Moto M. The two phones will continue to be splash- and dust-resistant.

The screen factor

A major difference between the Moto G5 and G5 Plus is the screen size. The Moto G5 has a 5-inch full HD display, while the Moto G5 Plus offers a slightly bigger 5.2-inch full-HD screen. There is no 5.5-inch display variant this time, but we can’t rule out the possibility of a third Moto G Plus being launched afterwards, considering the fact that the three Moto G4 phones were released separately.

Improved innards

The Moto G5 runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core chip, while the Moto G5 Plus runs on a more powerful Snapdragon 625 octa-core processor. The two phones will be available in multiple variants based on the RAM size and internal storage. The minimum storage capacity in the Moto G will be 16GB and 2GB RAM, while the Moto G5 Plus will start with 16GB storage and 3GB RAM. The battery size also varies, but slightly. The Moto G5 has a 2,800mAh battery and the G5 Plus is powered by a 3,000mAh battery.

Still weighs the same

Though the Moto G5 Plus has a smaller display, yet it weighs 155g, as much as the Moto G4 Plus. The Moto G5 weighs 145g. Motorola hasn’t given up on the microUSB and headphone jack in the Moto G series phones yet. The speaker is placed on the front panel and so is the fingerprint scanner. It continues to be a non-clickable touch button and cannot be used as a home button. Its rectangular shape doesn’t clash with the phone’s rounded appearance.
