Motley Crue's Tommy Lee debunks 'Dear F**king Lunatic' open letter to Donald Trump

Motley Crue singer Tommy Lee has debunked a viral open letter to president Donald Trump from 2017.

The hilarious open letter was supposedly written by the rock star himself, but it's clear he did not write it.

It includes extreme levels of profanity aimed at the president of the US.

Tommy, 57, shared someone else's Facebook post, which was credited to Craig Alan Wilkins, to his personal page.

It seems Tommy was doubled-up with laughter at the letter, which is social media gold.

It begins with: "Dear F***ing Lunatic..." and includes iconic one-liners, including: "Do you know how f***ing insane you sound, you off-brand butt plug?"

Another insulting line read: "You are a fried d**k sandwich. If chlamydia and gonorrhea had a son, you'd appoint him HHS secretary."

But it seems fans have mistaken the author as being Tommy, after the musician decided to post it on his own social media.

However, Snopes reports that Craig Alan Wilkins might not be the official author of the open letter after all.

The open letter was posted to Tommy's personal Twitter and Facebook accounts - but not written by him (Twitter)

The site suggested the letter was dubious, as lots of the text was reportedly taken from Aldous J Pennyfarthing's Daily Kos article from December 2017.

Pennyfarthing wrote the letter in response to Trump's New York Times interview, which the author said had left his "mouth immutably agape".

Trump said at the time: "Yeah, China. … China's been. … I like very much President Xi. He treated me better than anybody's ever been treated in the history of China."

Pennyfarthing's opening statement responded: "I read with interest your recent interview with The New York Times.

"I couldn't get past the bit about your being the most popular visitor in the history of f***ing China — a country that's only 2,238 years old, give or take."

Pennyfarthing's Twitter account also wrote a message in response to the letter which has re-surfaced.

He insisted the open letter was not written by Tommy Lee.

He wrote: "Welcome new followers! Yes, I'm the original author of the 'Dear F***ing Lunatic' letter.

"Not Tommy Lee. I simply don't measure up to Tommy Lee. And here's the book of the same name. Buy it, read it, enjoy the japery."

He also left a link to buy the book alongside his tweet.
