Motion named one of world's best clubs in prestigious DJ Mag guide

Motion has been named as the fourteenth best club in the world by DJ Mag.

The only other UK venue to be placed higher than the industrial St Philips space in the magazine's prestigious Top 100 Clubs poll was London's Printworks, which came in at number five.

In last year's poll Motion, which launched the adjoining Marble Factory venue in 2017, was placed at number 11 - but its directors Dan Deeks and Martin Page are still "over the moon" with this year's position.

Dan said: "We are over the moon to come fourteenth in such a prestigious list.

"Although we have dropped three places it has been a busy year, in which we have campaigned and worked for measures to protect ourselves from noise complaints.

"Every year we focus on delivering some significant changes to keep what we are doing exciting and forward thinking.

"In 2017 it was the new Marble Factory venue and in 2018 we launched the Lockyard for summer parties.

"We have some big and exciting plans for 2020 and 2021, which we will be working on once the coronavirus virus outbreak is over.

"We would like to thank everyone who voted for us and everyone who supports our culture by coming to our events and making this possible."

Despite its international acclaim, Motion faces an uncertain future with a number of developments planned nearby.

Later this year its directors are launching a sister site at Pennywell Road, which they hope will be used by businesses for award ceremonies, conferences and more, as well as music events.

DJ Mag's Top 100 poll was originally launched in 2005 as a list curated by votes from DJs, before being opened up to the public for the first time in 2011.

Since then, the Top 100 Clubs guide has evolved to become an internationally-recognised benchmark for lovers of the dance floor.

Speaking about this year's poll, a DJ Mag spokesperson said: "Due to the global disruption caused by the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, nightclubs and live music venues worldwide are being closed.

"Many are under threat of not reopening at all. Therefore, we believe now, more than ever, we should draw attention to the venues that underpin the electronic music scene."
