Motherwell weigh up goalkeeper transfer swoop after Trevor Carson injury blow

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson admits the club are "evaluating" whether they should bring in another goalkeeper after Trevor Carson's injury.

The Steelmen confirmed today that the Northern Ireland cap requires surgery on a knee issue picked up in the win over Ross County.

It's sad news for the 32-year-old who returned this season after a long-term battle with deep vein thrombosis kept him out of the Fir Park side and faces another three months on the sidelines.

With Scott Fox already out of the side injured, new recruit Aaron Chapman is the only fit goalkeeper in the first-team with PJ Morrison now on loan at Falkirk.

The gaffer said the club would assess their options to provide cover for Chapman.

Robinson told the club website today: “It is a blow to lose Trevor.

“He has done so well since he’s got back into the side and also getting back into the national team.

“We will support him through his recovery and hope that he makes a quick and full return to fitness.

“We brought in Aaron Chapman as cover previously, and we are evaluating whether we now need to bring in another goalkeeper to cover Trevor’s absence.”
