Motherwell v Hearts: Who should start for the Jambos in the Betfred Cup at Fir Park?

Hearts head to Motherwell on Friday night and there’s likely to be at least one new face playing from the start.

On-loan Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Pereira has come in to take some of the pressure of the recently beleaguered Bobby Zlamal, and is likely to make his Hearts debut between the sticks at Fir Park.

Glenn Whelan could also be involved but is a little bit behind his teammates in terms of match sharpness.

Steven Naismith won’t feature after feeling his hamstring during last weekend’s 0-0 draw with Motherwell and no risks will be taken with him in case in gets any worse.

That might make things more straightforward for Craig Levein when it comes to striking options. Conor Washington could partner either Uche Ikpeazu or Steven MacLean, who has trained all week after not being involved in either of the Jambos’ opening two league matches.

Aaron Hickey returns from suspension following his opening day red card at Aberdeen, but Aidy White should up reasonably well on his debut last week so there’s a decision to be made at left back.
