Motherwell 'to lure Ross County midfielder with European football'

Motherwell are reportedly looking to sign Ross County midfielder Blair Spittal when his contract expires at the end of this month.

And it is hoped the lure of Europa Conference League football next season will help the Steelmen seal the deal.

A fifth-place finish in the Scottish Premiership this season has booked their passport to Europe and they will enter the competition in the second qualifying round in July.

And the Scottish Daily Express are reporting that Staggies star Spittal could be the club's first summer signing.

Spittal has already turned down a new deal in Dingwall and County confirmed earlier this week the 26-year-old will not be staying at the Global Energy Stadium.

The former Dundee United and Partick Thistle man netted seven times for the Staggies in the Premiership last season across 37 appearances.

Motherwell are due to return for pre-season training next month and with a number of players out of contract at Fir Park, boss Graham Alexander could have a summer rebuild on his hands.

Defender Ricki Lamie was set to leave for Dundee after agreeing a pre-contract deal, but it is understood a clause in his deal means their relegation to the Championship offers the 28-year-old the opportunity to perform a U-turn, which both he is expected to complete in the coming weeks.
