Motherwell to induct Hall of Fame star - who would you like to see?

Motherwell will honour a Hall of Fame Class of 2020 this winter with a special 'virtual' induction - and fans can get involved.

The club held their inaugural Hall of Fame event at the Bothwell Bridge Hotel in November last year, but a similar ceremony is impossible for this year, so they will have a special live, free-to-air online event in the near future.

It will be hosted by comedian and broadcaster Tam Cowan, with assistant manager Keith Lasley helping to induct four more legends to join those already inducted - George Stevenson, Willie Pettigrew, Ally Maxwell and James McFadden.

Fans can vote for a fifth inductee, who can be anyone from the club's past - player, manager or official.

The other four inductees will be announced by the club shortly, and will either collect their induction on the night in person or represented by a relative.

Motherwell say the inductees usually come from four broad groups: 1886-1939; 1945-1969; 1970-1995 and 1996-2020.

Chief executive Alan Burrows told the club's website: "It was crucial to continue the Hall of Fame this year, despite the Covid-19 restrictions.

"We want to ensure this is an annual induction, and being a member of the Hall of Fame really means something special to those involved, which is why we will carry on with an online version.

"All four in the class of 2020 have made incredible contributions to Motherwell FC and are already, rightly, genuine club legends.

"The event itself is only possible thanks to the brilliant backing of our five sponsors, who I thank very much for their ongoing support. I hope fans enjoy the event when we broadcast it live across our platforms later this year."

Fans can vote for their favourite by visiting the club's website.
