Motherwell through to Premier Sports Cup last 16 after victory over Annan Athletic

Motherwell secured their place in the last 16 of the Premier Sports Cup with a 2-0 win over Annan Athletic.

The Steelmen needed a win to qualify and they secured it against the League Two side to finish top of Group F.

Justin Amaluzor scored on his competitive debut after 39 minutes to give the Steelmen the lead at the break.

Barry Maguire doubled the host's advantage on 56 minutes after Kevin Van Veen's clever pass.

Motherwell could have faced a nervy final ten minutes but Liam Kelly produced a brilliant save to keep out Owen Moxon's penalty on 79 minutes.

Graham Alexander's side will learn their opponents in the next round after all the group stage games are completed tomorrow.

Goalscorer Amaluzor was delighted to progress to the next round, adding: "I'm really happy to bounce back from Wednesday, because the performance wasn't good enough.

"[I'm happy]to make my debut and score but more importantly, we’re through to the next round.”
