Motherwell 'thoroughly deserved win' says boss Graham Alexander

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander says his side thoroughly deserved their 2-0 win over Kilmarnock and was pleased that they didn't take their foot off the gas.

A dull first half was livened up just minutes after the restart when Devante Cole curled in an exquisite shot to put the Steelmen ahead and then turned provider for Stephen O'Donnell with four minutes left.

That moved Motherwell up into seventh place in the Premiership table ahead of their last two games, and Alexander was pleased with his lot.

He said: "The biggest thing that has delighted me today is that we didn't take a step back, we didn't think 'oh the season's done' and we committed to every action defensively and attacking-wise.

"We thoroughly deserved the three points.

"I thought the performance, as well as the result, was top-notch and it was great to see.

"You always get challenged throughout the season for different things, set backs and coming back - which we've shown - when it looks like it might be a dead-end game but we didn't show any of that.

"I'm delighted for the players, they will all go home delighted with themselves and that's the target at the start of the day."

Alexander added: "I thought the front four were a constant threat for Kilmarnock and ably supported by the rest of the team.

"I was delighted with what we were doing but we didn't want to get frustrated because we had a lot of possession but didn't get that opening goal.

"To get it straight after half-time was great, but we just wanted to have a little bit more purpose when we were in that attacking half, we moved the ball really well.

"I thought the goal was a great move and a great finish, and it settled us down a bit more.

"I thought we got a bit sloppy with ourselves for 10 minutes, took our foot off it, but regained that control, got the second which put it beyond doubt and we deserved it today, I thought we were excellent."
