Motherwell talisman Tony Watt needs consistency, warns boss Graham Alexander

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander says he doesn't need hat-tricks from Tony Watt, but is looking for more consistency from the striker.

The talismanic striker popped up to score his ninth goal of the season and rescue a point from a 1-1 draw at Hibs on Saturday - his second in as many games after scoring a spectacular winner against Dundee United at Fir Park on Tuesday.

And while Alexander was delighted with the striker's performance, he reckons he could score more often.

Alexander said: "It’s not about ‘more’, it’s about carrying on and being consistent with it.

“He doesn’t have to start scoring hat-tricks or whatever, after that, he’s just got to have that steady consistency about how he approaches the games.

"I feel that he's fine in that, and how he trains, which he definitely has found, and those put together go into his consistent performances, and certainly in his goal-scoring record.

"Tony had a bit of a lean patch just before this week, but his performances for the team have been just as good and that, for me, is the most important thing.

“But we know if we can get our players to certain areas, and we get him into certain areas, then he can score goals.

"That’s great, because we have other players, if you look throughout the squad, who can score goals, so our threats are from around the pitch and that’s important.

“But Tony is playing a great role for us just now and it’s great to see him at the top of those charts."
