Motherwell star's contract talks reportedly falter as Steelmen hit with blow ahead of Celtic trip

Tony Watt is set to leave Motherwell at the end of the season when his current contract expires, according to a report.

The striker is in the form of his life and currently sits as the Premiership's top scorer ahead of Motherwell facing former side Celtic this Sunday.

There have been calls for Watt to be called into the Scotland squad off the back of his form so far this term.

But hopes have been dashed over his long-term future at Fir Park, with the Scottish Sun reporting contract talks have 'broken down.'

While there has been no fall-out between the striker and the club, it is likely that Watt will see out his contract in Lanarkshire and move on at the end of the season.

It would be a big blow for manager Graham Alexander and the fanbase, who have taken him on as a favourite since his 2020 arrival.

Watt's career has taken him to a total of 12 clubs, but he's played more times for Motherwell than anyone else.

In total, he's netted 19 times in 68 matches with 11 assists. The 27-year-old can also count Celtic, Hearts and Charlton amongst his former clubs.
