Motherwell star not a Portsmouth transfer target as Fratton Park boss distances himself from mystery club speculation

Portsmouth manager Danny Cowley has distanced himself from rumours that his club are the English League One side who hold an interest in Motherwell's Ricki Lamie.

The versatile defender has impressed for the Steelmen this season and reports this week suggested an unnamed English club from the third tier were interested in him.

Lamie is out of contract this summer and can speak to other clubs in the January transfer window.

But the notion of that club being Portsmouth has been dismissed, with Cowley telling The News that he knows 'little' about Motherwell's centre-back.

A defender is high on Pompey's transfer wish list but Lamie isn't one they are considering.

'Well manager Graham Alexander may have defensive problems of his own this weekend after Lamie limped out of last week's 1-1 Premiership draw against Hibs.

Juhani Ojala and Sondre Solholm Johansen have also struggled with injury in recent weeks, which could leave Bevis Mugabi as the only fit centre-back for this Sunday's trip to Celtic.
