Motherwell star 'honoured' to be captain but hurting from defeat

Motherwell striker Tony Watt says being made captain was one of the biggest honours of his career, but was left hurt by the 3-0 defeat at home to St Johnstone.

The 27-year-old deputised for injured captain Declan Gallagher, with Stephen O'Donnell suspended for his red card in the 4-1 derby defeat to Hamilton the previous week.

It was a day to forget for all in claret and amber, but Watt was pleased to have been given the honour.

He took to social media to say: "Was one of the biggest honours of my career yesterday leading the team out.

"The feelings between the first and last whistle were so different and nobody's hurting more than me.

"We will work 110 per cent to get to where we need to be."

The defeat has left Motherwell in ninth place, five points behind their opponents, but with a game in hand as they head to St Mirren on Wednesday.
