Motherwell star Bevis Mugabi says fans' return provides a real boost

Bevis Mugabi says having fans back at Fir Park will boost Motherwell, and that the players are working hard to get back to full fitness.

Mugabi was thrown in to Sunday's Premiership opener against Hibs and scored in a 3-2 defeat, despite not having had much preparation for it.

Having struggled with a troublesome shoulder injury last season, and undergoing surgery during the summer, Mugabi admits he's not quite at 100 per cent.

He says others are in the same boat, and players need to reach peak match fitness before fans will see the best of them, but they are getting there.

But for now, he's happy to see and hear supporters back in stadiums again.

Mugabi said: "I think it's going to be amazing [to get bigger crowds back].

"You saw the atmosphere that was here on Sunday, and that gave us a big lift, going into the game.

"The more people that can get into stadiums to be better, to be honest.

"With supporters being there I think it gives us an extra five or 10 per cent, to just push on the extra yard, you could say.

"With them being allowed back in to the stadiums I think it's going to be more entertaining.

"It was a special feeling, because it has been so long since we've had that feeling within Fir Park.

"For me, getting that goal back, on my return from injury, was great and it was a special moment for myself.

"It was good to be back involved. It was a long time since I played my last game, towards the end of last season, so I was very happy to be back in the team and playing games again.

"I haven't played for four or five months and others are just started his first league game coming in, so we're all trying to get match fitness again - I feel there's a lot more to come from us within the next couple of weeks, for sure."

Mugabi says the intensity of an away Europa League clash against Galatasaray on Thursday night can have an effect on Sunday's hosts St Johnstone, but says it's just up to Motherwell to make sure they're ready for the game.

"Having a late flight back, plus especially being away from home it's probably an intense game, so there will probably be a few fatigued players," he said.

"At the end of the day we just need to focus on ourselves and make sure we're prepared to go into the game and get the three points that we need.

"It's intense playing away in Europe; you do get fatigued, but it's just part of our job and at the end of the day you just have to make sure we've recovered for the next game coming up.

"It's a blessing, being involved in those type of games anyway, so we just have to take it and roll with it."

Mugabi added: "It's always a difficult game, playing away from home against them. They're going to be strong, defensively, they've got some good attacking threats as well, so we need to be aware of them as well.

"It's something we need to be wary of, but I'm confident that we'll get a good result.

"We don't really fear any team in this league, so we'll train hard today and tomorrow and then go on to Sunday's game with confidence."
