Motherwell star Allan Campbell admits secret goal target amid Scotland cap calls

Allan Campbell hopes to be a regular on the Motherwell scoresheet this season after netting the winner against St Johnstone.

The midfielder was the star man at Fir Park netting the only goal against the Saints to secure The Steelmen's first league win.

After being the star of the show for both the Scotland under-21 side against Lithuania and 'Well last week, the 23-year-old has been tipped for a full international cap.

However, Campbell is focusing on his club form and helping Stephen Robinson's side climb away from the foot of the Premiership table.

“I’ve not been shy in saying I am going to look to improve myself and try to score goals," he said.

“I just keep working on the training ground and the coaches are helping me, but I just try and put that into the games.

“Over the past week I’ve managed to get two and will keep try to do the right things.”

When asked about how many he hoped to net, he joked: “I’ll just keep that to myself for now.”

He felt the battling win over Callum Davidson's side showed that Motherwell can quickly climb the table, as they sit just three points behind Ross County in fifith.

The scorer added after the game: “We showed great character throughout the team. We were solid and won all the second balls. We managed to dig in to win the game.

“Any time you win it puts you on a high but it puts you on a high.

“We were compact in our shape and we can build on that.

“We just need to make sure that we are winning games and show the same attitude that we did today.

“If we show that desire and work rate the results will keep coming.”

With Coleraine next up in the Europa League qualifying rounds, Campbell was targting a similar showing in Northern Ireland this Thursday: “Any time you get to play in Europe it’s a good experience but we just have to show that same desire and work rate again.”
