Motherwell 'sound out' Tommy Wright over vacant manager's job

Former St Johnstone manager Tommy Wright has reportedly been 'sounded out' for the vacant managerial position at Motherwell.

The Fir Park outfit are on the hunt for a new gaffer following Stephen Robinson's shock resignation last week, with Keith Lasley currently in charge on an interim basis.

And according to The Scottish Sun, Motherwell have made contact with Wright about succeeding Robinson.

Northern Irishman Wright has been out of work since May when he quit Saints and given his pedigree with the Perthshire side - keeping them in the Premiership for seven years and winning the Scottish Cup in 2014 - he could be seen as the man for the job with 'Well joint-bottom of the table with Ross County after a 10-game winless streak.

Lasley oversaw the Steelmen's embarrassing 3-0 reverse away to Hamilton Accies in Saturday's Lanarkshire derby and while that won't have done much for his chances, the club stalwart is understood to have three more games to prove himself to Fir Park chiefs.

His next game in charge arrives on Saturday when 'Well travel to St Mirren and that is followed by the visit of league leaders Rangers on January 19, then a trip to Aberdeen on January 23.
