Motherwell snap up veteran goalkeeper as boss Stephen Robinson opens the door for exits

Motherwell have snapped up goalkeeper Aaron Chapman as cover for first-choice Trevor Carson.

The 30-year-old has been without a club since leaving Peterborough in the summer and has penned a deal with The Steelmen until the end of the season.

The former Chesterfield and Tranmere shot-stopper will now provide competition for Northern Ireland cap with back-up keeper Scott Fox injured.

Boss Stephen Robinson also hoped the move would allow Scotland under-21 goalkeeper PJ Morrison the chance to leave Fir Park on loan.

He told the club website: “He [Aaron] has played a high number of games at a good level in England, so will prove a valuable addition.

“Importantly, this will also open the door for us to put PJ Morrison on loan. We want to do that so he can gain valuable experience at first team level and we hope to announce a move for him shortly.

“That is vitally important for all young players but especially goalkeepers, who have a limited opportunity.

“Without reserve games, the development of our young players would be affected if we did not take that step. Going out on loan is the perfect way to bridge the gap.”
