Motherwell smash Morton as Dundee United ease past Cowdenbeath in Betfred Cup

Motherwell scored four as they comfortably dispatched of Morton in the Betfred Cup group stage.

The Fir Park outfit were in total control but surprisingly only went in at half time 1-0 up.

That goal came from Motherwell youngster James Scott who netted after fine play from Sherwin Seedorf.

Stephen Robinson’s side continued to dominate in the second half and put the game well beyond doubt with three goals in 16 minutes.

Scott grabbed his second after being set up by Liam Polworth before Jermaine Hylton added a third 10 minutes later.

And as the game continued it was 4-0 when Liam Donnelly got his second goal of the season after Scott’s shot was blocked.

Dundee United were also in control as they defeated Cowdenbeath at Tannadice.

Robbie Neilson’s side got their second win of the campaign and it was a simple one for them.

Argentine defender Adrian Sporle opened the scoring after fine pass from Lawrence Shankland split the defence and he lifted it over the onrushing Kevin Dabrowski.

Shankland then got a goal of his own when Scott Banks delivered a fine ball into the box and the former Ayr frontman nodded home.

Louis Appere then put the game beyond down with five minutes to go when he glanced home from 10 yards.
