Motherwell sign Ireland under-21 star Ross Tierney from Bohemians

Ireland under-21 midfielder Ross Tierney has completed a long-mooted move to Scottish Premiership side Motherwell from Bohemians.

The attacking midfielder has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the North Lanarkshire side after they agreed an undisclosed transfer fee with Bohs.

Dubliner Tierney was out of contract at Dalymount Park but, as he's under 23, the Scottish club were obliged to negotiate a fee for his transfer.

The 20-year-old was part of the Bohs side beaten on penalties by St Patrick's Athletic in the FAI Cup final on Sunday in what was his final game for the club.

Tierney, who departs Bohs having made 67 senior appearances, is a regular for Jim Crawford's Ireland under-21s and has been nominated for PFAI Young Player of the Year.

He also helped Keith Long's side advance through three rounds in Europe, starting all six games in the Europa Conference League, scoring away to Stjarnan and F91 Dudelange.

“We’re really looking forward to Ross joining the club in January,” Motherwell boss Graham Alexander said.

“He’s a young player who has had a couple of excellent seasons with Bohemians and his national squad.

“His attributes will fit in perfectly with how we play and his potential is unlimited at this stage of his career.

“He’s already met the squad and is excited about the move. We mirror those feelings.”
