Motherwell 'set to appoint' Graham Alexander as new boss

Motherwell are set to appoint Graham Alexander as their new boss, after he reportedly impressed during his job interview with the club.

The 49-year-old was one of four candidates who were interviewed for the job after Stephen Robinson resigned from the role last week, and The Scottish Sun claims that Alexander has beat Keith Lasley, Tommy Wright and ex-Leeds gaffer Simon Grayson to the post.

And he will take charge of his first game as gaffer in Saturday's Premiership clash away to St Mirren, as the Steelmen bid to climb away from the foot of the table.

A 3-0 defeat at Lanarkshire rivals Hamilton Accies has left the Fir Park club joint-bottom of the pile with Ross County on 17 points and Alexander will be tasked with turning their campaign around.

It's understood that Alexander's contacts in England played a major part in him landing the job.

Alexander, who will be the club's 25th managerial appointment in their history, played over 800 league games for clubs including Scunthorpe, Luton, Preston and Burnley, and he was capped 40 times for Scotland.

It is expected that the Fir Park club will make an official announcement shortly.
