Motherwell seal capture of Irish prospect as Alexander hails 'exciting player'

Bohemians midfielder Ross Tierney will join Motherwell in the January transfer window as manager Graham Alexander's long-term recruitment drive continues.

The League of Ireland has been a place for Premiership clubs to find diamonds in the rough, with St Mirren's Jamie McGrath the highlight of imported talent in recent years.

Motherwell have handed three-year deals to several players - including vice-captain Liam Kelly - since Alexander's arrival as boss in January.

Tierney has four goals and an impressive 14 assists for Bohemians this season, including four in a 5-0 Bohs win over Drogheda United.

He featured last night as Bohemians reached the FAI Cup final with a 1-0 win over Waterford.

"Ross is a player we tried to sign in the summer, even to the end of the window," said Alexander. "We had an agreement with Bohemians that we would allow him to finish the season over in Ireland.

“He is an exciting young player who will come in and enhance our firepower and our quality. It’s been a long one, and it’s still not over the line as he still isn’t here yet.

“But we are delighted that he is coming to join us. He’s an attacking midfielder who can play in the front three, he creates opportunities and can score. He works his socks off and he is still only 20.

“After speaking to him quite a bit he was dead keen on the opportunity of coming to play for us so we are delighted.

“If they are good players and motivated about coming to Motherwell we are happy to bring them in. We think Ross will be a right good addition.”
