Motherwell's Liam Kelly opens up on his future and Scotland dream

Liam Kelly is absolutely loving his spell at Motherwell and he would be open to extending his stay at Fir Park.

The 25 year-old has been a revelation since joining on-loan from English Championship side Queens Park Rangers in January.

Kelly has kept four clean sheets in his last last six games and produced some excellent performances to highlight his importance to Graham Alexander's side.

"You want to be somewhere where you're appreciated and Motherwell feels like home for me," Kelly said. “I’m a Glasgow boy and it’s twenty minutes away from here. It’s perfect and I’m loving it."

“I would [like another crack at England] but you want to play somewhere that you’re wanted and you don’t want to force yourself on people.

"It’s still so unknown [the future] and it’s on QPR’s terms because I’m their player for the next two years anyway.

“They’ll decide what they want to do with me. I just want to play football and if that’s at QPR then brilliant.

“But if it’s not and if it’s somewhere else then that's good too. If Motherwell is an option then it’s something that I’d strongly consider as well."

Kelly revealed that he is constant contact with the goalkeeping coaches at his parent club and manger Mark Warburton.

The former Rangers boss must be taking notice of Kelly's brilliant form which, increasingly, has led to calls for a Scotland call-up.

The 'Well stopper can consider himself unfortunate to have been overlooked for Steve Clarke's recent squad.

Kelly is very modest, and respectful of his peers, but he hopes that his form will catch the Scotland boss' attention.

“I think we’ve all got a hope," Kelly confessed. "I’ve got a hope like every other player in Scotland but the quality of goalies in Scotland is just so good.

“The three goalkeepers are brilliant and there are three other goalies that could come in before me.

“I’m just really happy here at Motherwell and if I keep my form going then hopefully the Scotland coach likes it."

Kelly produced a man of the match performance to help secure a vital three points for Motherwell against St Mirren.

Jamie McGrath is an excellent penalty taker and the Irishman had scored all eight penalties since moving to Scotland until Kelly denied him from the spot in the first half.

“He scored one in my first game for Motherwell against St Mirren," Kelly recalled. "He’s a brilliant penalty taker and I don’t know if he’s missed many so I’m delighted to make the save.

“Ultimately, in the end it does look as though it’s played a big part in the game. Big shout out to my goalkeeper coach Hinchy {Craig Hinchcliffe} and our analysis guy Ross.

“They do a lot of work for me and send it over. But he’s such a difficult one because he waits for you to move but I’m just delighted that I got a wee bit of luck with it."

McGrath's confident penalty technique involves waiting for the goalkeeper to move and Kelly was able to lean on his experience of practising in training with Eberechi Eze, now at Crystal Palace.

"He waits on you so he decides after the goalkeeper to move so you have to stand your ground.

“It’s difficult but at QPR, Eze does the same and I practiced a lot with him.

“I thought about that and took it into training so I’m delighted to win the game," Kelly added.
