Kevin van Veen's Scottish Premiership debut for Motherwell drew high praise from the Sportscene pundits last night.
The Dutch striker was a standout for the Steelmen in their 3-2 defeat to Hibs and opened the scoring at Fir Park to grab his first goal for the club.
Former Scotland internationals Steven Naismith and Chris Iwelumo reviewed the game on last night's highlights show and both were impressed by 'Well's summer signing.
Looking back at van Veen's headed goal from a Jake Carroll cross, Iwelumo said: "He was outstanding. He was a presence, the ball stuck, he was an aerial threat, he was putting in challenges as well.
"The header is perfect. The power and the pace is on the ball and van Veen is under it, but he still has to get the accuracy on it.
"He's basically putting it back where it came from and the quality of Carroll's ball [is great].
"It was an impressive performance from Motherwell."
And ex-Rangers and Hearts striker Naismith added: "Through the [league] cup, Motherwell struggled in a few games and the manager hasn't been happy with that.
"But [in this game] everything seemed in sync. They had a good mix of speed and desire to get forward.
"You had the big man in the centre of the pitch [van Veen], who everything went through.
"Whether he was holding the ball up or whether he was driving forward with the ball, it all seemed to click quite well."
The key moment in the game arrived after 70 minutes when Hibs were awarded a penalty, which Martin Boyle converted to take all three points for the visitors.
Post-match, Alexander said he felt the decision to penalise skipper Stephen O'Donnell for handling Kevin Nisbet's strike in the box wasn't 'in the spirit of the game', with the ball struck at the defender from close range.
The pundits, though, saw little wrong with the decision.
Iwelumo said: "It's not intentional. It's ball to hand, but it is a penalty kick."
Naismith concluded: "He [O'Donnell] is disappointed because it's harsh, but in this day and age it is a penalty."
