Motherwell's Europa League qualifying tie - all you need to know ahead of Nyon draw

Motherwell will discover their opponents for their Europa League first round qualifier later today.

The Fir Park outfit will enter European competition for the first time in six years when the draw is made in Nyon, Switzerland at 12pm.

Their last outing came in 2014 when they lost a second round qualifier in extra-time to Icelandic side Stjarnan.

And today's draw could see Stephen Robinson's men paired with another Icelandic side.

Breidablik, who finished runners-up in Icelandic top flight last season and currently sit fifth in the table this season, are among the Steelmen's potential opponents.

Motherwell could also meet the winner of the preliminary round ties between Faroe Islands side NSI Runavik and Welsh side Barry Town United or the victors between Northern Ireland's Glentoran and HB Torshavn, also from the Faore Islands.

The tie will be played on August 27 and will be a one-legged affair.

However, UEFA last week revealed special rules will be applicable to the qualifying phase and play-offs for 2020/21 season amidst the Covid-19 outbreak.

This could see teams forced to forfeit the game if a visiting team is not allowed to enter Scotland in line with government travel advice.

The host club would need to find an alternative venue whether they or the visiting side are impacted. If an away venue can not be determined, UEFA will decide one for them.

If Motherwell can negotiate the first round tie, round two of qualifying will be played on September 17, with the draw for that held on August 31.
