Motherwell's Devante Cole remains in contract talks with 23 players set to leave Fir Park

Motherwell remain in talks with Devante Cole over a new deal as the club provided an update on player contracts.

23 players will depart Fir Park when their contracts - including loan deals - end but Graham Alexander hopes that Cole will sign a new deal to keep him at the club next season.

The 26 year-old striker finished the season as Motherwell's top goal scorer with 12 goals in all competitions as he thrived since January under the tutelage of Alexander.

Cole revealed earlier this month that talks were positive over an extended deal and that he was enjoying one of the best seasons of his career under Alexander.

Motherwell have also offered new deals or an invite to return to pre-season training to Dean Corenlius, Charles Dunne and Scott Fox.

The Fir Park side have announced that 17 players will be leaving the club when their contracts expire including key players Allan Campbell and Declan Gallagher.

Gallagher has already agreed to join Aberdeen next season while academy graduate Campbell is expected to move to England with various clubs interested in his services.

First-team players Christopher Long, Liam Polworth, Aaron Chapman, Sherwin Seedorf and Sam Foley will also leave the club this summer.

Finlay Cook, Paul Hale, Yusuf Hussain, Ross MacIver, Matthew McDonald, Sam Muir, Lewis Robertson, Harry Robertson, Jamie Semple and Cammy Williamson are the other players leaving Motherwell when their contracts expire.

Motherwell have six loan players - Jake Hastie, Liam Kelly, Tyler Magloire, Eddie Nolan, Jordan Roberts and Harry Smith - who will go back to their parent clubs at the start of next month.

'Well boss Alexander confirmed that talks were ongoing to keep some players at the club as he thanked those leaving for their services.

He said: “I would like to place on record my thanks to everyone who will leave the club this summer for their contributions and efforts. We wish each of them success in their future endeavours.

“We not only remain in positive discussions with some of our players but also with a number of clubs in relation to one or two players we had on loan, with a view to doing something. But these things take some time.

“The process of rebuilding the squad is well underway.”
