Motherwell's clash at Killie officially OFF amidst Ayrshire club's Covid crisis

Motherwell's Premiership clash with Kilmarnock this evening has been officially cancelled after six players from the home side tested positive for coronavirus, forcing the entire squad to self-isolate for 14 days.

Discussions took place between Kilmarnock FC, NHS Ayrshire and Arran, the Scottish Government, Public Health Scotland and the Scottish FA this morning.

With their squad in self-isolation, Kilmarnock applied to the SPFL board for a cancellation of the fixture, which has been granted.

A statement issued by Motherwell FC read: "Motherwell FC believes the right course of action has been taken, in order to protect players and staff of both clubs.

"We wish those affected by the virus a speedy recovery to full health."

An investigation will now be carried out by the SPFL to find out the circumstances leading to the postponement.

No new date has been set for the fixture, pending the outcome of that investigation.
