Motherwell rocked by major injury set-back

Motherwell have been rocked by news that goalkeeper Trevor Carson might not be back in action this year after being ruled out for three months with a knee injury.

Scans have shown that Carson suffered a meniscus tear during Saturday's 4-0 win over Ross County.

It's looking unlikely that the 32-year-old will be back fit until January at the earliest.

It's another major blow for the Noerthern Ireland international, after having to battle back from deep vein thrombosis, which cast a dark cloud over his career.

Carson was out for almost 18 months before regaining the top spot again this summer.

It's also a second goalkeeper that Motherwell have lost to long-term injury, with Scott Fox ruled out for the season after picking up a cruciate injury in training.

Steelmen boss Stephen Robinson brought in free agent Aaron Chapman as cover, and he is likely to be given the number one jersey for the moment, starting with the trip to Livingston on Saturday - but he will almost certainly either need to look elsewhere, or recall PJ Morrison from a loan spell at Falkirk.
