Motherwell RAF veteran given lifelong service award to mark her 100th birthday

A Motherwell woman who joined the RAF on her 21st birthday in 1940 had a huge party thrown for her to celebrate her centenary.

Margaret Mitchell reached the incredible milestone on Friday.

And Parksprings Care Home, where she is now a resident, threw her a massive party to toast the occasion in style.

To mark her years of service, members of the Air Cadets attended to help present her with an RAF lifelong service award.

North Lanarkshire Council Provost Jean Jones also attended to hand over a present and offer congratulations.

Margaret was born on August 16, 1919 and is the eldest of five siblings.

She married her husband Duncan in 1943 and has two sons; Robert and Duncan. She also has six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
