Motherwell lead tributes for Christian Mbulu after sudden death of 23-year-old

Motherwell have led the tributes for former player Christian Mbulu who tragically passed away on Tuesday.

The Premiership club are "shocked" by the news of the 23-year-old's sudden death and paid their respects to the "friendly" defender who they "loved" having around Fir Park.

The Morecambe stopper, 23, made six appearances for the Steelmen during the 2018/19 season.

The club said in a statement: "Christian was with us in the 2018/19 season, making six first team appearances and a further three for our Under 20s in the Challenge Cup.

"Twenty-three years old, he left Fir Park in May 2019 and went on to play in England with Crewe Alexandra and then Morecambe."

Motherwell chairman Jim McMahon said: “We are shocked to hear of the news of Christian’s death.

“He was such a friendly, pleasant young man who we loved having around Fir Park.

“Our thoughts are with his family during this incredibly difficult time. We hope their privacy is respected by everyone as they try to come to terms with their loss."

Motherwell chief executive Alan Burrows added: "I am absolutely shocked and totally devastated for Christian’s family and friends. I cannot believe it

"He was such a nice bloke and always had a positive outlook. May he rest in peace."
