Motherwell incident: Man seriously injured after being struck by train

A man was struck by a train at Motherwell station sparking a major emergency service response.

Police and ambulance were called to the station around 8.40pm on Friday after the incident.

The man sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.

Yesterday, we told how ScotRail told customers that services would be delayed or cancelled due to the disturbance.

ScotRail tweeted at the time: “We've received reports of an ongoing incident in the Motherwell area.

“We're working closely with the emergency services at this time and will update you once we have more information from the grounds.

“Services via Motherwell are being delayed or altered as a result.”

They later confirmed that services had resumed as normal following the incident.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Police Scotland was called to Motherwell Railway Station around 8.40pm on Friday, 2 April, following a report that a male had been struck by a train.

"British Transport Police and the Scottish Ambulance Service also attended and he was taken to hospital with serious injuries.”
