Motherwell 'hopeful' of signing Nottingham Forest winger in summer

Motherwell are “hopeful” of re-signing Nottingham Forest winger Gboly Ariyibi in the summer.

The 24-year-old has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Reds after making the move to the City Ground from Chesterfield in January 2017.

After previous spells at MK Dons and Northampton Town, he has spent the second half of this term on loan north of the border and has become a regular starter for Motherwell.

Middlesbrough boss Tony Pulis claims '£100m deficit' between Nottingham Forest and Boro's spending

Ariyibi has made 15 appearances for the Scottish Premiership club, scoring two goals, as he has found some good form at Fir Park.

His most recent strike came last weekend, when he found the back of the net in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Dundee, having earlier conceded a penalty for a foul.

The hosts also had Alex Rodriguez Gorrin sent off just before the hour mark, with Ariyibi pitching in with some defensive work.

And manager Stephen Robinson said: “Gboly said he was fouled, he landed on the ball, so whether it (the penalty) was the right decision or not, I can’t really comment.

“But I thought Gboly was excellent, especially when we went down to 10 men. It’s the first headers I’ve ever seen him win.

“He’s a talented boy.

“We’re hopeful to get him back again next year and progressing his career.”

Motherwell have two more games to play before their campaign - and Ariyibi’s loan deal - comes to a close, with a trip to St Johnstone this week followed by a home game with Livingston on May 18.
