Motherwell hero Louis Moult joins fans in hailing Stephen Robinson achievements

Motherwell hero Louis Moult has joined fans in hailing Stephen Robinson achievements at Fir Park after he resigned from the club.

The Northern Irishman quit his post after last night's 2-0 defeat to Kilmarnock, following a successful spell spanning almost four years.

Last season he guided 'Well to a third-place finish in the Scottish Premiership, earning the club European football for the first time since 2017, and he also allowed fans the chance to cheer on their team at Hampden in both cup finals in the 2017/18 season.

And former fan favourite Moult, who memorably bagged a deadly double as 'Well beat Rangers 2-0 on their way to the League Cup final that year, tweeted to say Robbo was "one of the best" he's worked with.

The striker is still at Preston North End in the English Championship following his transfer from Motherwell in 2018 and he posted:

Robinson's reign may have ended with Motherwell 10th in the Premiership, but other former players, including goalkeeper Mark Gillespie, and fans have heaped praise on the job he did and his ability to develop some top young talent - making Motherwell a pretty penny in the process.

The likes of Allan Campbell, Declan Gallagher and Barry Maguire have blossomed under Robbo's stewardship, while the sales of David Turnbull, Cédric Kipré and James Scott helped bring in millions.

And those success stories haven't gone unnoticed.

Keith Lasley, who was Robinson's assistant will now take the team on an interim basis.

His first match in charge comes on Saturday when 'Well travel to Lanarkshire rivals Hamilton Accies in a huge clash at the bottom of the Scottish Premiership.
