Motherwell hero Davie Cooper inducted into club's Hall of Fame

Motherwell have inducted Scottish Cup winning hero Davie Cooper into their Hall of Fame for 2020.

The wing wizard joins John Hunter and Andy Paton in this year's intake.

Motherwell will honour the class of 2020 with a unique virtual induction event this winter in a live, free-to-air online ceremony.

And they are again asking fans to pick their fifth inductee from any era in Motherwell's past - player, manager or official - which they can do by visiting the club's website.

Tommy McLean signed Cooper from Rangers for £50,000 in 1989 and despite being seemingly near the end of his career, the Hamilton-born winger quickly became a hero for the Fir Park faithful.

Cooper set up three of the goals in a 4-1 League Cup win against Kilmarnock at Rugby Park on his debut in August 1989, and was the architect of a 3-1 triumph over St Mirren on his Fir Park bow.

Continuing to inspire those around him, Cooper further endeared himself to Motherwell fans when he set up Bobby Russell's winner against Rangers.

Cooper scored seven times in his debut season and netted five times in the following campaign, but he is best remembered for his part in Motherwell's run to win the Scottish Cup at Hampden in May 1991 with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Dundee United.

His final full season at the club was in the 1992-93 campaign and he returned to his first club, Clydebank.

Cooper sadly passed away in March 1995, and the Motherwell board named the newly-constructed North Stand after him.
