Motherwell goalkeeper earns Northern Ireland call-up for UEFA Nations League

Motherwell goalkeeper Trevor Carson could make his first international outing for almost two years after being called into the Northern Ireland squad.

The 32-year-old has returned to the fold for the Fir Park men this season after a long term injury and deep vein thrombosis kept him out of the squad during the last two years.

And now Northern Ireland boss Ian Baraclough - who beat Motherwell gaffer Stephen Robinson to the job last month - has called on Carson for UEFA Nations League clashes against Romania and Norway next month.

Carson, who has four caps for his country, has played in all of Motherwell's five matches this season, keeping one clean sheet during two draws, three defeats for the Steelmen.

On Thursday he is expected to be between the sticks when his countrymen from Glentoran visit Fir Park in their Europa League first round qualifier.

Northern Ireland head to Romania on September 4 and host Romania three days later at Windsor Park.
