Motherwell fans react to disappointing Lanarkshire derby defeat to Hamilton

After Motherwell's disappointing Lanarkshire derby defeat against Hamilton, we caught up with two 'Well supporters to get their reaction.

We spoke to Del Somerville and David Torrance to get an insight into fan opinion after the shock 4-1 defeat.

1. How disappointing was yesterday's result, especially as you were in good form?

DS: Very disappointing. We had been on a good run of form under Graham Alexander since he arrived at the club. He has made us more organised as a team so it was certainly an extremely disappointing result for us and the manner in which we conceded the goals.

DT: Incredibly disappointing. At the start of the season, and after new year, we were in poor form and I’m sure, as embarrassing as the results were a lot of ‘Well fans didn’t expect anything from those games.

But having been on a great run recently, I expected a good result, but we were let down terribly.

2.What do you think went wrong?

DS: I don't think we started particularly well. Hamilton were right up for it, pressing high up the pitch which is something we have done quite well with Graham Alexander.

We just didn't look confident of getting a result yesterday, perhaps with Hamilton not having a midweek game worked in their favour, they looked a sharper than we did.

DT: Everything. We didn’t look interested from the get-go. Accies just seemed to want it more than we did.

Fair play to them they played us off the park, but it was a spineless performance, the worst I’ve seen in a long time.

3.That's the third time that Motherwell have lost to Hamilton this season. What do you believe that's down to?

(SNS Group)

DS: I think a couple of things. I feel going into these games now we seem to lack a real desire to go out there and win the game, we do need to learn to become a bit more streetwise in this kind of game.

Hamilton look like they treat it as a cup final and it showed with the result yesterday. I believe we haven't won against them since August 2019 so they really are a bogey side for us at the moment

DT: I think they know they need to survive. After last season, we were on a high, and obviously you fight for pride, but I feel our players just went in looking very lacklustre and 'oh well, it’s just Accies'.

They went into all three games knowing they need to win, we went in hoping for a win.
