Motherwell fan up a tree hit by wayward strike cheering on team in Scottish Cup

A football fan was struck by a wayward strike from Motherwell's Devante Cole as he tried to catch a glimpse of their 5-0 win over Formartine United in the Scottish Cup.

A wily band of Steelmen supporters were able to watch Motherwell in the flesh for the first time this season as a number of fans scaled trees and containers outside Formartine United's North Lodge Park in a bid to catch a glimpse of their heroes during the behind closed doors clash.

Supporters have been banned from stadiums since March last year due to coronavirus restrictions, but that didn't stop a handful of fans from going the extra mile to not only travel north to Pitmedden but go to some extreme lengths to catch the action, while others watched from home.

For one fan it didn't go so well as Cole's volley in the 78th minute flew out of the ground and caught a fan, which was also pointed by reporters at the game on social media.

Motherwell boss Graham Alexander and his players acknowledged the fans at full-time, giving them a round of applause for their support during their 5-0 victory.

Jordan Roberts grabbed two, while Christopher Long, Devante Cole and Allan Campbell were also on target during the comprehensive victory over the Highland League outfit.
