Motherwell discover Europa League opponents after Glentoran progress

Motherwell will face Glentoran of Northern Ireland in the first qualifying round of the Europa League.

The Belfast club edged a 1-0 win over Faroese side HB Torshavn in the preliminary qualifying round.

The one-legged tie will be played at Fir Park on August 27 and as per UEFA rules will be behind closed doors.

Well's stellar season under Stephen Robinson saw them finish third behind Celtic and Rangers in 2019/20 to qualify for this year's competition.

It will mark a return to European competition for the Steelmen for the first time since 2014.

And the Fir Park club have some making up to do after being dumped out by Icelandic minnows Stjarnan in their last tie six years ago.

Heartbreaking losses to Russia's FC Krasnodar and La Liga side Levante in the latter stages of qualifying preceded that and the Motherwell faithful would love to see their team make the group stage.
