Motherwell director charged by SFA over Rangers penalty controversy

Motherwell director Andrew Wilson has been charged by the SFA over comments made on social media following his side's 5-1 defeat to Rangers.

Wilson was enraged after referee Bobby Madden awarded two penalties to Rangers for handball and insisted Motherwell should have had at least one spot kick as well.

He took to Twitter to slam the refereeing and has now been charged by the governing body for breaching rule 72 which says: "no club official shall ‘(i) criticise the decision(s) and/or performance(s) of any or all match official(s) in such a way as to indicate bias or incompetence on the part of such match official; or (ii) make remarks about such match official(s) which impinge on his character’..

On Twitter, he wrote: “Farcical decision by Bobby Madden. Two pens to Rangers neither strong but second just ludicrous. Two clear penalties for us denied. Was ever thus.

“Now a third. Weaker claim but hand on back pushing.”

He also added in reference to Madden: “He has certainly been the most dangerous player on the field for Motherwell to cope with and strong in defence also.”

Wilson will face a hearing on October 29 and could be fined if found guilty. It's the same rule Steven Gerrard was charged with following his comments about a referee following a tackle on Alfredo Morelos.
