Motherwell defender Jake Carroll ruled out "for months" after curious injury

Motherwell interim boss Steven Hammell has revealed defender Jake Carroll will be ruled out "for months" after missing their defeat to St Johnstone.

The Steelmen suffered late agony with a stoppage time sickener, which came just moments after Stephen O'Donnell's late deflected header looked to have earned a 1-1 draw.

But that wasn't the only blow for 'Well, who will be without the left-back long-term after he picked up an injury in training yesterday.

Irishman Carroll was at Fir Park on crutches and Hammell said: "Unfortunately Jake got a bad injury yesterday in training. It was really innocuous.

"There was nobody within five yards of him and unfortunately it looks like a bad one for Jake.

"It's a massive blow for us because he was a big part of what we wanted to do.

"He was missed today in terms of that balance.

"I'm not sure exactly what the injury is but it is a serious one.

"We've not had an official diagnosis of it, but it's going to be months."
