Motherwell dealt further Liam Donnelly injury blow

Motherwell have been dealt a further injury blow with news that Liam Donnelly is out for months.

Boss Stephen Robinson said the midfielder had gone under the knife to solve a knee problem, but isn't expected back this year.

Robinson said: "Liam has had the operation, he was down seeing the specialist yesterday (Thursday), it was a little bit worse than we feared, so it's probably going to be into the new year before I see Liam back again.

Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson admits Donnelly injury is a major blow (Bill Murray/SNS Group)

"It is a blow, I'd say we've been a little bit unfortunate. It was innocuous, nobody was near Liam when the injury happened - same with Scott Fox - but it has been a big blow to us.

"Liam will be a big miss to us, but Mark O'Hara is playing in that position for us and doing well, we've got some younger kids in Barry Maguire and Dean Cornelius, who are doing very, very well, so it's just when you throw these younger boys in."
